The Fellowship Recognition Award aims to foster communication among Pharmacology labs, including those outside NHH, and recognize students and postdocs who contribute to the cost of their training.

Predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees obtaining at least a year of competitive funding, as demonstrated by an award letter. Eligible funding includes NIH F- or K-level award, foundation award, or UMN award. (Not NIH T-level funding or awards made prior to arriving on campus.)
Details
The trainee or PI requests the funds, then plans and hosts an event recognizing the individual and individual’s lab, and invites Pharmacology labs. Total funding dollar amount will be used in the event of a tie.

Award will be given to individual or team who makes an exceptional contribution to the research climate of the department in any of the following spheres: leadership, mentoring, teaching, service, graduate or faculty recruitment, collaboration within or among departments, or commitment to diversity.

The Research-Leadership Publication Award recognizes pre- and post-doctoral trainees who drive the science and/or writing of a publication to an extraordinary extent.

Details
Paper + cover letter (can be from the original submission). Judged on highest-quality publication, taking account science, impact, and presentation. (Scores will not be driven solely by journal impact factor.) If a nomination letter is received from the PI, then applicants will be additionally considered for the Research-Leadership Publication Award. This nomination letter should address how the trainee has (a) driven the direction of the project to an extraordinary extent, (b) made impressive intellectual contributions to the major scientific conclusion of the paper, (c) solved a long-standing problem/mystery in the lab, or (d) drove the writing process to an exceptional degree. Judged on the quality of the publication, taking account science, impact, and presentation PLUS the extent to which the trainee was the driving force as explained by the PI.

Trainees submit a (not- or not-yet funded) NIH F- or K-level or foundation fellowship application. Upon invitation by the written prelim committee only, a revised written prelim exam (with a short cover letter addressing critiques) may also be submitted. Scoring will take into account significance, innovation, approach, and writing/presentation.

The Department of Pharmacology Travel Award seeks to subsidize travel to prestigious, field-specific conferences, increasing departmental exposure at a national/international level and facilitate high-quality training and career networking. Recipients will also be considered for the Ben G. Zimmerman Travel Award, which recognizes research excellence in Integrative Pharmacology and is financially supported by the Ben G. Zimmerman Fellowship in Integrative Pharmacology.

Up to 8 x $1000 (2 per quarter) for reimbursement of travel, lodging, per diem, or registration expenses for a conference.
* Applicants are expected to submit only original content. If plagiarism is suspected, the matter will be brought to the PI and the DGS for further clarification. While application materials are expected to be largely authored by the applicant, content heavily edited by, for example, the applicant's PI or a senior colleague will still count as original if the applicant authored the first draft.
